Canon R5C Bad HDMI
Переглядів 71710 місяців тому
I found out my 4 month-old R5C has a bad HDMI port after only a few uses in which it output video to my Osee T7 just fine. The other day I wanted to take video of myself and saw that the HDMI isn't outputting a signal any more. This video will be used when I contact Canon support in case they ask me to perform their troubleshooting steps. I'll update for those who care, what the end result was.

A couple of ways to rig the Canon R5C

Using inexpensive parts to rig out the R5C in 2 different ways and still end up with a compact, run & gun setup.
Canon R5C with 32-bit float audio? Mount the Zoom F3 to your rig.
Переглядів 7 тис.11 місяців тому
Mounting the Zoom F3 32-bit float field recorder to the Canon R5C to give it dual-XLR and super clean microphone pre-amp capabilities. The entire video is recorded using the Sennheiser MKE-600 on 48V phantom power on track 1, and DJI Mic wireless microphone on track 2. Both are combined in post. Only audio processing done is loudness matching to -23dB LUFS and compression using the "voiceover" ...
Canon R5C Ridiculous Rig
Переглядів 20011 місяців тому
A ridiculous yet still compact 8K Cinema rig is possible using some smart and effective components. The only thing missing would be a matte box and follow focus components, but I don't use Cine lenses yet, and rely on autofocus using native RF glass. Audio was recorded on using a Sennheiser MKE-600 on track 1 and a DJI Mic on track 2 to Zoom F3 field recorder. The internal recording was synced ...
Did you get any response from Adobe? I'm issuing the same problem and would like to find solution.
Dude, clean the audio track of the sound of saliva! It is unpleasant to listen.
Great tip. Thanks!
Is it possible to use line out to record directly into camera & also record internally to still get the 32 bit float ?
Yes that is exactly how I use it. The line out to camera I use for scratch audio, and the interval record is synced up to it and used in the edit.
Excellent. I have the Zoom F3 also and was going to try this method on my Sony a1. How's it working for you thus far?
Thanks for the cold shoe slanted idea.
Not a clean setup....
some of us just care if it works
So this now has 32 bit float on the wireless mics?
This looks great! Could you post links to the cables and cold shoe mounts you used for the audio?
How does the line out to the camera handle the 2 channels from the f3? L and R are the 2 separated inputs? Thx
if its synced up with camera its no longer recording 32 bit float right ?
Correct, the only reason to stream it to camera is to have the scratch audio available to sync up the internally-recorded tracks in post. Although the scratch audio is already very high quality and perfectly suitable for use as long as the levels are set right in camera.
what's scratch audio mean? @@shootloadrepeat
@@shootloadrepeat so with loss of 32 bit float when syncing zoom f3 with camera does the f3 still give a boost in audio quality with its built in pre amps ?
You talk way too slow!
turn the playback to 2X and stop complaining when you can solve the issue yourself super easily
Great video, would be nice if you had background music and a little more snappy editing, but maybe this is the look and feel you are going for so good job
Question, does battery grip cage version works in gimbal?
Does the zoom f3 has internal timecode to match its internal storage 32bit float recording with camera? Like as rode wireless pro?
Hello Chris, can You please write me what is with audio level in the R5C when I plugged F3 to MIC input in the camera should I set the audio level to manual and decrease the levels all down ? The second question is about output level in the F3 how so You set it ? Thank You very much
How easy is it to change the batteries? How long do the batteries last while using phantom power and sending the signal line in into the 3.5mm jack? Do you think this is a better solution that the Tascam hot shoe unit?
You can change the batteries fairly quickly, even with the monitor mount screwed in. Takes a few seconds although you do need to remove the whole thing. I get more than 2 hours on phantom power, two inputs (only 1 phantom), and output doesn't seem to affect time. I use Eneloop Pros. You can also power the recorder off of a spare USB C tap from your V-Mount if you have a multitap.
Pretty cool🎉Thank You
Chris, no offense but you gotta talk faster. Our attention spans are short.
Working on it but I tend to speak slower and have an issue articulating certain things. I appreciate the feedback.
he must be having speech issue. you can increase the video speed setting from video setting panel playback speed
Update: Shortly after shooting this video, I called Canon phone support and a rep. from the Cinema line answered immediately and walked me through a few quick steps. He seemed fully familiar with the product and had me try a few quick things to make sure it wasn't a setting. I wasn't on the phone more than 10 minutes and he determined that I needed to send it in for repair with low turnaround time. He estimated I'd be without the camera for no more than 2 weeks. Once I get it back, I'll do a quick update.
Any news?
I haven't sent the camera in yet since I'm about to go on vacation and didn't want to be without it. I'll send it in after the fact. Still got time to do so.@@contentm3893
Same thing has happened to me. Less than 10 hours of filming and the mini HDMI not working, they can’t say it was from damage. It was never moved from a permanent studio tripod position on a teleprompter setup with cage and all to keep the wire from moving
Nice setup. But why are you even bother with the battery grip? You are making the whole setup bigger. You are using the V mount battery. Why the need for the grip. Just wondering.
I agree. I've gone back to the non-gripped version. The thing is, I use this camera more for stills, since I've been a stills shooter most of my adult life. I can't afford two cameras, and I like shooting photos with a gripped body more, so I wanted to try it in video mode. It's clunky with the grip, and the height over the mount is too much. When I convert to video, it's always a certain amount of production as I rig and de-rig. In video mode, I tend to run it ungripped, with the compact V-Mount bracket. This video was more of a way to show options available. Once I get an R3 or R1 (when it's released) I can then leave this body in a video rig the entire time.
Same here, using it with the grip even when doing video/gimbal/float operations. But as soon as the R5 II comes out (if at all) I will be getting it and just use the grip on that and go without grip for just video on the R5C. @@chrishoesel
Where did you get the cage from with space for the battery grip?
I believe I got it from B&H photo video but give me a few minutes to get to my PC and verify
Excellent content.
Thank you for the kind comment.
So from my understanding does the Zoom recorder capture the DJI 24bit audio and converts it to 32bit float???
I believe it takes the audio in whatever format as an input, and records it in 32 bit float, yes.
That's super useful. Thank you! I just got a zoom F3 myself, but my A7III cage doesn't have a good shoe on the shoulder. So i bought cold shoe mints i can install on the cage instead
Glad it can work for you, although this idea has been done by some others before, just not exactly sure who.
@@chrishoesel yeah, I tried finding them but couldn't. I think it helps that your video addressed it directly even in the title, and it wasn't just "included" as part of a larger video
